Joshua A. Enslen, Professor of Portuguese at the United States Military Academy at West Point, holds a PhD in Romance Languages from the University of Georgia (2008) and a Post-Doctoral Certificate of Studies from the Materialities of Literature Program at the University of Coimbra (2016). He teaches Portuguese as a Second Language and Brazilian literature, with research focusing on intertextual influences in Antônio Gonçalves Dias’ seminal poem "Canção do exílio" (1846) and historical intersections of literature and diplomacy in Brazil.

His collaborative visual literary studies with artist Alaina Enslen have been exhibited at the University of Coimbra’s Museum of Science (2016), FOLIO 2016 in Óbidos, Portugal, and the University of Lisbon’s Caleidoscópio (2017). His 2022 book, "Song of Exile": A Cultural History of Brazil’s Most Popular Poem, is published in Purdue Studies in Romance Literatures (Vol. 84).
