Dr. Josh Butcher is an Associate Professor in Physiological Sciences at Oklahoma State University's College of Veterinary Medicine. With appointments since 2019 and formal training in cellular physiology and vascular biology, his research focuses on the interplay between muscle physiology, metabolic disease, and vascular function.
- Key research areas: Aging, Obesity, Vasculature, Exercise physiology, Skeletal muscle dysfunction
- Major grants: USDA REEU Rural Scholars Program (2023-2027), NIH funding for muscle-cardiometabolic research (2020-2025), OCAST projects on exercise mimetics
- Methodological expertise: Transgenic mouse models, nanosensor development, circadian rhythm analysis, immunometabolism studies
His work reveals novel therapeutic pathways in diabetes by targeting myostatin, demonstrates muscle-vascular communication mechanisms, and explores circadian rhythm disruption in obesity. Current projects include point-of-care diagnostic platforms for pesticide exposure and interventions for sarcopenic obesity.
- Recent publications: 15+ articles (2018-2025) on muscle-endothelial interactions, NOX1 signaling, and pulmonary hypertension mechanisms
- Collaborations: National Institutes of Health, OCAS, OU Health Sciences Center, and industry partners like Nanodiagnostic Technology LLC
