Joseph Wilson is currently a Visiting Assistant Professor in the Philosophy Department at Fort Lewis College. He holds a Ph.D. in Philosophy from the University of Colorado Boulder, with a focus on the Philosophy of Science, Paleoclimatology, and Scientific Modeling. His research explores the epistemology of climate modeling, the methodology of proxy measurement, and the intersection of historical science with modern climate projections. Wilson is affiliated with the Center for the Study of Origins and the Committee on the History and Philosophy of Science at the University of Colorado.
His work emphasizes the reliability of paleoclimate models and their role in supporting future climate predictions. Notable projects include analyzing the use of paleoclimate analogues and critiquing proxy measurement techniques. He has published in journals such as Perspectives on Science, Synthese, and Frontiers in Climate, addressing topics like model-based epistemology and historical temporality in scientific inquiry.
Wilson has received a Certificate in College Teaching from the University of Colorado’s Graduate Teaching Program. He has taught a wide range of courses, including Environmental Ethics, Philosophy of Science, and Ethics and Information Technology, demonstrating expertise in both philosophical and applied ethics.
His research also engages with ethical and social-political philosophy, reflecting his commitment to interdisciplinary scholarship. Current projects include exploring values in scientific practice and the methodology of proxy measurement in climate science.
