Joseph W. Nicholas is an Associate Professor of Geography at the University of Mary Washington, affiliated with the Department of Geography in the College of Arts and Sciences. His research focuses on permafrost, rock glaciers, talus landforms, and climate change indicators in western Colorado and Utah.

- Ph.D. in Geography, University of Georgia (1991)
Dr. Nicholas investigates locational and morphometric characteristics of landslide deposits, periglacial processes, and talus landforms as climate indicators. His current work addresses causes of recent climate change in the American Southwest.
