معرفی
Joseph W. Kolis is a Professor and the Tobey-Beaudrot Professor of Chemistry in the Department of Chemistry at Clemson University's College of Science. His laboratories are located in Hunter Hall (Rooms 307, 347, 349, 349A, 414, 415, 418, and office 485), where he conducts research in inorganic materials synthesis and characterization.
His research focuses on:
- Solid-state chemistry: Hydrothermal growth of functional oxides, germanates, and silicates
- Magnetic materials: Low-dimensional spin systems, frustrated magnetism, and anisotropic behavior
- Advanced materials: Single-crystal fibers for laser applications and radioluminescent nanoparticles
- Characterization: Neutron diffraction, magnetic property measurements, and structural analysis
Recent publication trends (2023-2025) emphasize hydrothermal synthesis of quantum magnets, single-crystal fiber amplifiers, and complex oxide systems. His work frequently explores magnetic anisotropy, spin frustration, and materials for photonic applications.
Professor Kolis utilizes hydrothermal techniques for:
- Synthesizing refractory oxides of lanthanides/transition metals
- Developing laser-grade crystalline fibers (e.g., doped Lu2O3)
- Designing geometrically frustrated magnetic lattices
