Joseph Thornton

Joseph Thornton, MD, FACS, is an Associate Professor in the Department of Surgery at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas School of Medicine. He established the Division of Colon and Rectal Surgery 15 years ago and has been instrumental in developing surgical education and clinical services in Nevada.

• Education: Surgical training and colon/rectal surgery fellowship at Cook County Hospital, Chicago
• Professional Activities: Private practice (1978-present), medical mission work in Philippines, resident training

His research and clinical work focus on colon and rectal surgery, surgical education, and global outreach to underserved populations. He has mentored residents who now practice in Las Vegas.
