Joseph S. Jewell is an Associate Professor at Purdue University's School of Aeronautics and Astronautics, holding dual appointments in Mechanical Engineering (courtesy). He leads the HYPULSE Wind Tunnel at Purdue Applied Research Institute and specializes in experimental hypersonic aerothermodynamics, boundary layer instability, and low-disturbance wind tunnel design. His academic journey includes a B.S. in Aeronautics and History (Caltech), M.S.E. in Aerospace Engineering (University of Michigan), M.Sc. in Engineering Science (Oxford as a Rhodes Scholar), and Ph.D. in Aeronautics (Caltech).
