Joseph P. Roise

Joseph P. Roise is a Professor in the Department of Forestry and Environmental Resources at North Carolina State University. He holds a B.S. from Southern Connecticut State University (1973), M.S. from Colorado State University (1980), and Ph.D. from the University of Washington (1984). His research focuses on integrating operations research methodologies into forest management, wildfire science, and biomass utilization. Dr. Roise leads the Southern Fire Exchange (SFE), a key initiative under the Joint Fire Science Program, which bridges fire science and natural resource management in the Southern U.S.

He teaches courses including FOR 405/505 (Forest Management), FOR 531 (Introduction to Fire Science), and FOR 734 (Advanced Forest Management Planning). His applied research emphasizes optimization of forest resources, wildfire behavior modeling, and fire safety technology. Recent grants include developing strategic forest plans for the Wildlife Resources Commission and advancing fire shelter materials through DHS funding.
