Joseph Mulholland is a Professor in the Harmony department at Berklee College of Music. He teaches core Harmony classes and specializes in Jazz Composition, Brazilian Song, and advanced harmonic techniques. He co-authored The Berklee Book of Jazz Harmony and developed courses for Berklee Online. His work includes composing electronic scores for dance productions and serving as music director for theater productions like Peer Gynt and The Battle for Pigeon Cove Harbor.
Previously, he taught piano and ensemble at Brown University and led music direction for Didi Stewart and Friends, an ensemble honoring American Songbook and R&B traditions.
As Harmony department chair (2005-2015), Mulholland revised curriculum materials and created foundational workbooks for first-year students. His global teaching extends through private Skype lessons in jazz songwriting.
