Dr. Joseph Milone is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Recreation, Tourism & Sport Management at Southern Connecticut State University. He teaches outdoor leadership, recreation programming, and leisure philosophy while maintaining active research in inclusion and participant experiences in recreation programs.

His research focuses on inclusion in recreation programs, participant engagement, and leadership development, particularly examining how recreational activities impact health and wellness, and social integration of first-generation students. His publications and presentations highlight applications of contact theory, adaptive sports programming, and community engagement strategies.
Dr. Milone has secured multiple research grants including the VA Adaptive Sport Grant ($107,742 in 2023-2024) and Faculty Community Resilience Grants from SCSU. His work spans collaborations with national and state park associations, focusing on program evaluation and community recreation.
He has presented at numerous conferences including the National Recreation & Parks Association Annual Conference, Southeastern Environment and Recreation Research Conference, and Eastern Athletic Trainers' Association events, covering topics from beach access policies to lifeguarding career development.
