Dr. Joseph McDermid is a Professor in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at McMaster University. He also serves as an Associate Member of the Mechanical Engineering Department and Director of the Steel Research Centre. His research focuses on physical metallurgy of advanced steels, microstructure-property relationships, and high-temperature oxidation. He is actively accepting graduate students.
Research interests include metallic coating processes for advanced steels, reactive wetting phenomena, and electron microscopy applications. His work bridges materials innovation with industrial applications in manufacturing and infrastructure.
