Joseph Lenti is a Professor of History at Eastern Washington University (EWU), specializing in Latin American history with particular focus on Mexico and Costa Rica. He has extensive experience in academic leadership, serving as the advisor for EWU's MA History program from 2015-2022, which he transitioned to a fully online format. His research explores labor movements, urban informality, and environmental displacement in Latin America. Notable works include Redeeming the Revolution (2017), honored by UNAM, and an upcoming book on Costa Rican squatting histories. Lenti has organized major conferences on topics like Mexican-U.S. relations and urban informality, and has conducted research across North and Central America.
His teaching spans modern Latin American history, world history, and research methods. Awards include a UNAM Book of Distinction for his 2017 monograph. Current projects include Precario: Every Histories of Eviction, Squatting, and Survival in Costa Rica, analyzing displacement dynamics from historical and contemporary angles.
