Dr Joseph Lelliott is a Senior Lecturer at the TC Beirne School of Law, University of Queensland, specializing in criminal law, international human rights law, and migration-related legal issues. He co-authored 'Criminal Law in Queensland' and edited the Oxford Commentary on the UN Convention against Transnational Organized Crime. His research focuses on migrant smuggling, human trafficking (particularly involving children), and the criminalization of threats in domestic violence contexts.
He serves as a consultant to UNODC on smuggling/trafficking issues and contributes to Queensland's Criminal Directions Bench Book committee. Lelliott holds a PhD from UQ and teaches courses on criminal law and comparative law. His recent projects include analyzing threats of fire in domestic violence and corruption's role in transnational crime.
He has authored over 50 publications including books, journal articles, and reports. His work emphasizes protection-based approaches for vulnerable groups like unaccompanied minors and explores legal responses to modern challenges such as pandemic-related crime and technology-facilitated violence.
