Joseph Holoshitz is a Professor of Internal Medicine and Associate Chief for Research at the University of Michigan Medical School, with a focus on Rheumatology. His work centers on the molecular and immunological mechanisms of autoimmune diseases, particularly rheumatoid arthritis (RA), where he investigates the role of HLA-DRB1-shared epitope in triggering signaling pathways.

Dr. Holoshitz's research explores how the RA shared epitope alters cellular signaling via calreticulin and other receptors. His lab also studies environmental interactions with genetic factors in autoimmune arthritis, including oxidative stress pathways and bone damage.
Recent publications highlight his team's work on HLA-DRB1 allelic epitopes, 14-3-3ζ as a therapeutic target, and small molecule inhibitors for RA. These studies span molecular immunology, drug discovery, and inflammatory disease pathogenesis.
