Joseph Harris is an Associate Professor of Sociology at Boston University, specializing in comparative historical research at the intersection of sociology, political science, and global health. He is the author of Achieving Access: Professional Movements and the Politics of Health Universalism (2017). His roles include Vice Chair of the International Studies Association’s Global Health Section, co-founder of the ASA’s Global Health and Development Interest Group, and Deputy Editor of the Journal of Health & Social Behavior. He has consulted for UNDP and the World Bank on health policy reforms and received prestigious awards including two Fulbright scholarships and the Gitner Award for teaching excellence. His research focuses on healthcare access, universal health coverage, and HIV/AIDS prevention, with a focus on Southeast Asia and the Global South.
Education: PhD from University of Wisconsin-Madison (2012) and MA from Princeton’s Woodrow Wilson School (Public Affairs).
Research Interests: Dr. Harris examines how professional movements and political dynamics shape global health policies, particularly in low- and middle-income countries.
