Joseph Engelberg is a Professor of Finance at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) Rady School of Management. His research examines how information spreads among market participants, particularly through financial media and social networks.
- Education: Ph.D. in Finance from Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University; B.A. in Mathematics and B.S. in Business Administration from the University of Southern California.
Engelberg’s work focuses on empirical asset pricing, corporate finance, and the role of networks in financial markets. He investigates how media coverage, social connections, and information processing affect investor behavior and market outcomes. His research also explores short-selling dynamics, industry clusters, and the economic implications of human capital in non-traditional sectors like religion.
Engelberg’s publications highlight trends in market anomalies, credit spread biases, and the causal effects of information flow. His studies often bridge finance with behavioral economics and network analysis.
