Joseph Donroe, MD, MPH, is an Associate Professor of Medicine at Yale School of Medicine, specializing in General Internal Medicine with a focus on addiction medicine and medical education. He serves as Director of Point of Care Ultrasound for Internal Medicine Residencies and Hospitalist Program, and Director of the Yale School of Medicine Physical Exam Course.
Dr. Donroe earned his MD and MPH from Tufts University School of Medicine, where he was an NIH Fogarty Scholar and spent two years working in Lima, Peru. He completed a combined residency in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics followed by a chief residency year with the Yale Primary Care Internal Medicine Residency Program. He is board certified in Addiction Medicine, Internal Medicine, and Pediatrics.
His research interests span medical education, clinical skills development, point-of-care ultrasound applications, and substance use disorder treatment. Dr. Donroe has pioneered innovative approaches to teaching physical examination techniques and integrating POCUS into medical training curricula. His work bridges clinical practice with educational methodology, focusing on practical, bedside teaching applications.
Dr. Donroe's publication record demonstrates a consistent focus on medical education innovation, particularly in physical examination teaching and point-of-care ultrasound.
