Joseph Burnett is a Teaching Professor and Lecturer in the Department of Chemistry at Iowa State University (ISU), affiliated with the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. He holds a B.S. from Allegheny College (1982) and a Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry from the University of Pittsburgh (1992). His postdoctoral work was conducted under Patricia Thiel at ISU's Ames Laboratory and Chemistry Department. From 1993–1996, he served as a Visiting Assistant Professor at the University of Iowa's Chemistry Department before returning to ISU in 1997 as an Instructor and Undergraduate Laboratory Associate, focusing on instrumental analysis, quantitative analysis, and physical chemistry instruction.
Dr. Burnett received the 2000 ISU Liberal Arts and Sciences College Award for P&S Excellence. He is an active member of the American Chemical Society (ACS), particularly the Ames Local Section. His expertise centers on chemistry education and undergraduate laboratory training, though he is currently not accepting new students.
Throughout his career, he has contributed to teaching and curriculum development in analytical and physical chemistry, maintaining a strong commitment to undergraduate education.
