Joseph Blattman is an Associate Professor at Arizona State University's School of Life Sciences. His research focuses on T cell immunity, vaccine development, and cancer immunotherapy. He leads a team using mathematical models and DNA origami nanostructures to study T cell receptor diversity and immune responses to viral infections and tumors.
Education: Ph.D. in Immunology from Emory University (2001). His work bridges immunology and epidemiology, investigating how vaccines influence disease transmission and susceptibility. Key projects include developing safer vaccines, analyzing T cell exhaustion in chronic infections, and applying immune checkpoint blockade to treat metastatic cancers.
Research grants include NIH-funded projects on DNA origami for TCR analysis and mucosal adjuvants for HIV vaccines. He teaches courses in immunology, molecular biology, and research methods. Collaborations span virology, cancer biology, and public health, with over 100 peer-reviewed publications.
His lab explores strategies to enhance T cell responses at mucosal sites and modulate microbiome influences on tumor immunity. Recent breakthroughs include combining oncolytic viruses with checkpoint inhibitors for osteosarcoma therapy and engineering reovirus vectors for exogenous protein expression.
