Joseph Aranha is a Professor at the Huckabee College of Architecture, Texas Tech University, specializing in traditional and vernacular architecture within non-Western societies. He holds a Master of Architecture from Iowa State University and a Bachelor of Architecture from the Indian Institute of Technology.

His research examines continuity and change in traditional buildings and settlements, addressing global challenges like rapid urbanization and loss of regional architectural identity. Aranha's work includes internationally exhibited photo essays and contributions to the Encyclopedia of Vernacular Architecture of the World.
He has conducted field research across North and Sub-Saharan Africa, Asia, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East, and has held Fulbright Specialist projects and teaching appointments in Malaysia, China, India, Spain, and Mexico. His long-term collaboration with the University of Seville includes teaching summer design studios at Texas Tech's Center in Seville for over a decade.
