Joseph Amon is the Desmond M. Tutu Professor of Public Health and Human Rights and Distinguished Professor of the Practice in the Department of Epidemiology at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, where he also serves as Director of the Center for Public Health and Human Rights. Previously, he was Director of Global Health and Clinical Professor at the Drexel Dornsife School of Public Health. He holds visiting or adjunct appointments at SciencesPo, Princeton, Columbia, and Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences.

Dr. Amon's research focuses on the intersection of public health and human rights, particularly among marginalized populations. He has conducted extensive research on compulsory drug detention, police violence, and the criminalization of key populations.
His recent publications reveal a consistent focus on human rights-based approaches to public health, with significant contributions in the areas of migration and trauma, global health policy, and structural determinants of health. His work combines empirical research with advocacy and policy engagement, often influencing national and international discourse.
