Joseph Ackerson

Joseph Ackerson is an Adjunct Professor at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), specializing in Pediatric Neuropsychology. With over 25 years of clinical experience, he focuses on diverse patient populations, including those with TBI, neurodevelopmental disorders (ADHD, ASD, LD), epilepsy, and rare genetic conditions. He currently chairs the Alabama Statewide Sports Concussion Taskforce and serves on the Alabama Board of Examiners. Formerly, he held leadership roles as Director of Psychology at Children’s Hospital and Director of Pediatric Neuropsychology at UAB.

Dr. Ackerson teaches Neuropsychological Assessment to UAB Medical Psychology graduate students and supervises select students in his clinical practice. He actively advises on research and public health initiatives, bridging academic, healthcare, and governmental sectors. His work emphasizes practical challenges in professional ethics and clinical supervision, offering unique mentorship opportunities.
