Jose Serrano-Moreno

Jose Serrano-Moreno is a Senior Lecturer in the Biology Department at Western Washington University's College of Science and Engineering. His office is located in BI161, with Spring 2023 office hours on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2-4 PM or by appointment. He holds a PhD in Cellular Physiology from Case Western Reserve University (2001) and a Licenciado in Biology (Cell Biology) from Universidad Central de Venezuela (1989).

His research interests focus on pedagogical strategies to enhance critical thinking and independent performance in science students through active learning environments. He actively participates in curriculum development and student advising at the department, college, and university levels. Previously, his research explored intracellular calcium homeostasis, membrane transport proteins, and the cellular basis of physiology/pathophysiology.

Professional experience includes postdoctoral work at Oregon Health & Science University (2001-2007) as a Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Fellow, and research at Venezuela's Instituto Venezolano de Investigaciones Cientificas (1990-1994). No current active research program is noted.
