Jose Santos Lopez Gutierrez

Jose Santos Lopez Gutierrez serves as an Associate Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering: Hydraulics, Energy and Environment at the Technical University of Madrid, holding this position since September 14, 2021. He concurrently maintains membership in the Environment Coast and Ocean Research Laboratory (since June 2005) and the R&D+i Center for Smart and Sustainable Civil Infrastructure (CIVILis) (since November 2024).

His research spans interdisciplinary domains including Civil Engineering, Hydraulic Engineering, and Ocean Engineering, with significant contributions to Water Science and Technology, Renewable Energy systems, and Coastal Sustainability. Work integrates Earth-Surface Processes with Environmental Ecology to address challenges in Oceanography and Marine Infrastructure under climate change scenarios.

Dr. Lopez Gutierrez directs his efforts through the Environment Coast and Ocean Research Laboratory and CIVILis center, where he develops sustainable solutions for hydraulic infrastructure and coastal management. His current projects focus on Smart Civil Infrastructure applications within Renewable Energy frameworks and Ocean Environmental Sciences.
