Pennsylvania State Universityمعرفی
Jose Fuentes is a Professor of Meteorology at the Department of Meteorology and Atmospheric Science, College of Earth and Mineral Sciences, Pennsylvania State University. His research focuses on atmospheric boundary layer dynamics, biogenic hydrocarbon emissions, and their impacts on air quality and climate systems.
Dr. Fuentes earned his Ph.D. in Meteorology from the University of Guelph in 1992. He is a Fellow of the American Meteorological Society and a member of the American Geophysical Union.
His research interests span multiple critical areas:
- Atmospheric Boundary Layer and Turbulence: Field and theoretical studies on turbulent transport theory and chemical processing of biogenic non-methane hydrocarbons (NMHCs) in forest ecosystems.
- Atmospheric Chemistry and Pollution: Investigation of NMHCs' role in ozone formation/destruction, particularly in regions like the Amazon rainforest and boreal forests.
- Climate and Earth-Atmosphere Interactions: Seasonal controls on biogenic production, aerosol yields from hydrocarbon oxidation, and radiative forcing impacts.
- Pollutant Deposition Processes: Micrometeorological studies on ozone deposition mechanisms in forests, including wet-surface interactions and acid-rain effects.
Key research projects include field campaigns in Canada (BOREAS, Polar Sunrise Experiment), Brazil (Large-scale Biosphere-Atmosphere experiment), and the U.S. (Florida Everglades, New Mexico).
Scientific awards include:
- Fellow, American Meteorological Society
