Jos Hackforth-Jones is Honorary Professor at the University of Sydney with expertise in art history and visual culture. Her research examines British imperial art, museum studies, and the intersections of art and commerce. She has held leadership roles including Director of Sotheby's Institute of Art and Provost at Richmond The American International University in London.
Current projects include contributions to 'Cultural Exchange in the British Empire' (Routledge 2026) examining visual culture across colonial territories and a study on portraiture and identity politics in colonial contexts. She co-edits 'Charles Rodius' monograph scheduled for 2026 publication.
Research specialties include 18th-19th century British art, authenticity in art markets, and visual representations of cultural exchange. Her methodological approach combines art historical analysis with postcolonial theory.
Significant honors include election to the Company of Art Scholars and an honorary doctorate. She has held visiting positions at Yale Center for British Art and Humanities Research Centre at Australian National University.
