Dr. José Manuel García Aznar is a Full Professor of Structural Mechanics at the Department of Mechanical Engineering, University of Zaragoza. He holds a BSc in Mechanical Engineering and a PhD in Computational Mechanics from the University of Zaragoza, with postdoctoral research conducted at the University of Keele, UK.
His research focuses on computational mechanics, mechanobiology, and biomedical engineering, particularly in tumor growth modeling, tissue regeneration, and biomaterials. He leads projects funded by the European Research Council (ERC) and the European Union, including ICoMICS (2022-2026), VAST (2023-2025), and GOALS (2023-2028). His work integrates computational models with experimental data to address challenges in cancer therapy and bone regeneration.
Dr. García Aznar has received the Juan C. Simo Young Investigator Award (2004) and serves on editorial boards of journals like Computer Methods in Biomechanics and Biomedical Engineering and Bone. He is also Vice-President of the European Society of Biomechanics (2008-2012) and a member of the Virtual Physiological Human Institute.
His research spans tumor-on-chip models, microfluidic devices, and patient-specific simulations, emphasizing the role of mechanical forces in biological processes. Key projects include developing predictive models for tumor growth and fracture risk stratification in cancer patients.
