Jorun Rugkåsa is a Professor of Mental Health Care at the Faculty of Health Sciences, Oslo Metropolitan University. Holding a PhD in Sociology from Queen’s University Belfast (2010), her research focuses on health services research, mental health care, and the role of family caregivers.
- Key Research Areas: Involuntary psychiatric care, continuity between primary and specialist mental health services, and ethical governance of mental health interventions.
- Ongoing Projects: Ambulance workers’ assessment of self-determination and capacity to consent in prehospital mental health encounters; the Reducing Coercion in Norway (ReCoN) intervention evaluation.
Her work bridges sociology, medical anthropology, and global mental health policy. She actively disseminates research at international forums including the European Congress on Violence in Clinical Psychiatry and the International Congress on Law and Mental Health.
Professor Rugkåsa’s methodological expertise includes cluster randomized controlled trials, qualitative stakeholder analysis, and register-based epidemiological studies. She contributes to policy development through cross-country comparative research frameworks.
