Jorin Hamer

Jorin Hamer is a doctoral researcher at GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel, specializing in marine biodiversity and phytoplankton ecology. As part of the DFG research units DynaSym (2024–present) and DynaTrait II (2018–2022), he investigates bacteria-phytoplankton symbiosis, nutrient dynamics, and their impacts on ecosystem functioning.

• Education: M.Sc. in Marine Sciences from Kiel University (2020), B.Sc. in Biology from Oldenburg University (2016).
• Research Focus: Evolutionary adaptation, intraspecific diversity, and trait variability in phytoplankton under environmental stress.

His work integrates experimental ecology with biogeochemical modeling to understand plankton community dynamics. Current projects examine how symbiotic shifts affect marine ecosystem resilience in the context of global change.
