Dr. Jorge Zamora was an Assistant Professor of Spanish at Texas Tech University (TTU) since 2001, affiliated with the Department of Classical & Modern Languages & Literatures (CMLL) within the College of Arts & Sciences. He transitioned from international business law to academia, becoming a revered educator known for his expertise in Business Spanish and contributions to Hispanic literature studies. His tenure included co-directing the Mexico Field Course, blending cultural immersion with academic rigor through experiences like wrestling arenas, salsa dancing, and historical site visits.
Education: Earned his graduate degree at TTU's CMLL (1995–2000) before teaching at South Plains College. His research focused on horror, grotesque themes, crime fiction, and historical novels in Hispanic literature, resulting in a book on the grotesque and a co-edited anthology on crime fiction.
Advising & Grants: Co-Principal Investigator (Co-PI) on a major grant with TTU's School of Veterinary Medicine. Colleagues highlighted his exceptional teaching, consistently high student evaluations, and dedication to institutional missions such as directing the Spanish & Portuguese program.
Labs/Teams: Co-developed and led the Mexico Field Course, fostering cultural understanding through experiential learning. Memorialized posthumously via the Dr. Jorge Zamora Memorial Scholarship Fund, established to honor his legacy.
