Jorge Iber is a Professor and Associate Dean of the Student Division in the College of Arts and Sciences at Texas Tech University. His academic and research focus lies in the intersection of Mexican American/Latino history and U.S. sports history, with additional interests in the American West/Southwest.

Dr. Iber’s research over the past two decades explores Latino/a participation in U.S. sports, challenging historical stereotypes and documenting their contributions across football, baseball, boxing, and wrestling. His work also examines cultural identity, acculturation, and the role of sports in social justice movements.
Recent projects include a book on Texas Tech football legend Gabriel Rivera (2021), co-editing an anthology on Spanish-language MLB broadcasters (under contract with McFarland), and a children’s biography of Tony Romo. His publications span journals like NINE and The Annals of Wyoming, as well as edited collections such as Latinos and Latinas in American Sport (2019) and Mexican Americans and Sports (2000).
Dr. Iber’s work highlights the evolving demographics of U.S. sports, emphasizing how Latino/a communities have reshaped narratives around identity, integration, and representation.
