Jorge Torres Ortega

Jorge Torres Ortega is a Research Fellow affiliated with the University of California, Santa Cruz. His work focuses on tropical forest restoration on private lands, examining how farm-level forest management influences ecological succession and regional biodiversity conservation.

He actively engages in science education initiatives, such as collaborating with Watsonville High School faculty through the SCWIBLES Fellowship to integrate field research experiences into classroom teaching. This builds on his own experience participating in a high school reforestation program with a local NGO, which inspired him and peers to pursue conservation careers.
