Jorge J. Rocca is a University Distinguished Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and the Department of Physics at Colorado State University. His research spans the physics and development of compact soft X-ray lasers, high-power lasers, and high-intensity laser-matter interactions.
Education:
- B.S. in Physics (1978), University of Rosario
- Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering (1983), Colorado State University
Rocca's work in laser physics, plasmas, quantum electronics, and X-ray generation has led to over 300 peer-reviewed publications. His research emphasizes advancing ultra-high field nanophotonics and developing novel laser applications.
Scientific Awards & Honors:
- Elected Member, National Academy of Engineering (2024)
- Fellow, IEEE, APS, and OPTICA
- NSF Presidential Young Investigator
- Arthur L. Schawlow Prize in Laser Science (APS)
- Willis E. Lamb Award for Laser Science and Quantum Optics
- Vannevar Bush Faculty Fellowship (2020)
Rocca served as the first elected chair of LaserNetUS, a U.S. Department of Energy-funded network of high-power laser facilities in North America. His contributions bridge fundamental physics and cutting-edge engineering.
