Jorge Pantaleon is a Professor at the Department of Anthropology, Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Université de Montréal. His research focuses on Mexican migration in North America, socio-anthropological analysis of economic practices, and contemporary Latin American cultures. He holds a PhD and master’s degree from the Museu Nacional, Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro, and a bachelor’s degree from Universidad Nacional de Salta.

His research explores migration dynamics, transnational practices, and the socio-economic dimensions of globalization. He has supervised over 20 theses, including studies on agroecology, migration utility in Quebec, and Indigenous identity in Colombia. He is affiliated with CÉRIUM (Centre d'études et de recherches internationales) and has led/co-led multiple research projects funded by the SSHRC and FQRSC, focusing on migration, economic practices, and social dynamics.
Recent projects include 'Between precarity and hospitality: The contentious spaces of migration in North America's borderlands' (SSHRC, 2023–2029) and 'Travail, mobilités, subjectivités et formes d’assujettissement dans les Amériques' (FQRSC, 2019–2021). His publications include monographs and edited volumes analyzing migration, economic beliefs, and Latin American socio-cultural contexts.
