Vivian Flanzer

Vivian Flanzer is a Professor of Instruction and Director of the Portuguese Language Program at the Spanish and Portuguese Department, University of Texas at Austin. She has taught all levels of Portuguese as a Foreign Language since 2001. Her roles include curriculum development and program leadership.

Education:

• PhD in Iberian and Latin American Languages and Cultures, University of Texas at Austin
• MA in Foreign Language Education
• MA in Social Anthropology (Museu Nacional/Federal University of Rio de Janeiro)

Research Interests: Focuses on cross-cultural pragmatics, foreign language pedagogy, technology in language education, Brazilian cultural studies, and the intersections of language, ethnicity, and identity. She emphasizes the creation of innovative pedagogical materials.

• Slice of Life: Podcast series co-authored to teach English to Brazilians, sponsored by the American Embassy in Brazil.
