Jorge Contreras is James T. Jensen Endowed Professor and Director of the IP Program at the University of Utah, with adjunct appointments in Human Genetics. His interdisciplinary work spans patents, genomics, and technical standardization, evidenced by 14 books including 'The Genome Defense'.
He testified before U.S. Senate and House committees on patent reform and serves on NIH advisory councils. Honors include Distinguished Research Award (2020) and election to the American Law Institute.
Current projects examine open-source biotechnology and pandemic-related intellectual property frameworks.
