Prof. Jorge Cardoso Filho serves as an Associate Professor of Communication Theory at the Federal University of Recôncavo da Bahia, Brazil, within the Center for Arts, Humanities and Literature. He previously directed the Center from 2016 to 2020, demonstrating leadership in academic administration alongside his scholarly work.
His academic credentials include a PhD in Communication from the Federal University of Minas Gerais, an M.A. in Communication and Contemporary Culture, and a Bachelor's degree in Communication Studies, both obtained at the Federal University of Bahia.
Dr. Cardoso Filho's research centers on aesthetic experience, music, territories, and musical scenes within Afro-diasporic contexts. He examines how musical expressions in regions like Recôncavo da Bahia function as sites of resistance against hegemonic exclusion, particularly through diaspora and perspectivism. His work analyzes media productions and everyday listener experiences to uncover critical social fissures.
His publications (2010-2021) consistently address communication, aesthetics, and Afro-Brazilian culture, with rock music as a key vehicle for diasporic expression. Currently, as a Fellow at the Bayreuth Academy's Africa Multiple Cluster of Excellence, he leads a project on South Atlantic Afro-diasporic rock music in Bahia, employing comparative analysis of musical scenes across multiple cities.
