Jordyn Sheldon is an Instructor at the University of Winnipeg's Human Rights Faculty, teaching in departments including Urban and Inner-City Studies, Gender Studies, and Rhetoric and Communications. They are a PhD candidate in Environmental Studies and Urban Change at York University, focusing on intersections of racial capitalism, settler colonialism, and transformative justice practices. Their research explores harm reduction, abolition geography, and critical urban ecologies as pathways for resistance and healing.
Education: Currently pursuing a PhD in Environmental Studies and Urban Change at York University. Alumnus of the Human Rights program at the University of Winnipeg.
Research interests include the structural impacts of racial capitalism on health and community wellbeing, with a focus on liberatory frameworks such as abolition and transformative justice. Their work is guided by Anishinaabe and Nehiyaw principles of reciprocity and generosity, informed by Treaty 1 territories.
Professional activities include developing education programs for organizations like the Manitoba Association for Rights and Liberties, Canadian Museum for Human Rights, and Food Matters Manitoba. They led harm reduction curricula and policy initiatives with the Manitoba Harm Reduction Network, emphasizing community-driven approaches.
Teaching and advocacy center on bridging scholarship with grassroots action to foster justice, hope, and care in urban and Indigenous contexts.
