Dr. Jordan Shannon is Assistant Professor of Counseling at Seattle University's School of Counseling. His research examines racial identity development, experiences of racism in counseling, help-seeking behaviors among diverse populations, mental health stigma, and multicultural training in counselor education.
Education: PhD in Counseling, Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC), Certified Disaster Mental Health Counselor (C-DMHC), National Certified Counselor (NCC).
Dr. Shannon serves on editorial boards for the Journal of Counseling & Development and Journal of Counselor Leadership and Advocacy. His scholarship has been published in journals including Race, Ethnicity and Education and Journal of Multicultural Counseling & Development. He previously directed counseling programs at Seattle Pacific University.
Research Focus: Explores barriers to counseling utilization among African American male college students, racial dynamics in counselor education, and transformative approaches to teaching about race in counseling curricula.
