Jordan Matthews

Jordan Matthews is a Senior Lecturer in Sport Management at the University of Chichester’s Business School, serving as Programme Leader for the Sport Business Management undergraduate and Strategic Inclusive Leadership postgraduate degrees. His research focuses on gender relations in sport leadership and governance, particularly women’s experiences in international organizations and esports. He leads the Women’s Sport Leadership Academy (WSLA), a global initiative supporting over 400 women across 70 countries since 2014, earning him the 2024 Outstanding Achievement Award for Women’s Sport. Jordan also coordinates the South Coast Doctoral Training Partnership and supervises doctoral students exploring topics like women’s leadership in rugby and transgender issues in education.

Education: BSc (Chester), MSc (Chester), PhD (University of Southampton, Chichester campus), and Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA). His teaching includes modules on sport industry dynamics, esports history, sport development, and brand management.

Research interests span gender equity in sport governance, leadership development programs, and the intersection of sport with socio-historical contexts. His work has been published in journals like the International Journal of Sport Policy and Politics, and he contributes to global initiatives like the International Working Group on Women and Sport (IWG). Recent research examines networking strategies within international sport governance and the role of women in esports leadership.

Professional roles include membership in the University of Chichester’s Research Excellence Framework Equality and Diversity Committee and Research and Innovation Committee. He has authored commissioned reports for UK Sport and presented at international conferences in Europe and Africa.
