Dr. Jordan Harper is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Advanced Studies, Leadership, and Policy at Morgan State University's School of Education and Urban Studies. He holds a B.A. in Individualized Study from the University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC) and a Ph.D. in Urban Education Policy (Higher Education Concentration) from the University of Southern California. His research focuses on organizations, leadership, labor/work dynamics, and qualitative methodologies in higher education contexts, particularly examining how leadership is influenced by and upholds white supremacy and neoliberalism. His work has informed policy and labor organizing efforts, emphasizing equity and social justice.
Dr. Harper's research interests include higher education administration, organizational change, and the intersection of leadership with labor rights. His publications explore topics such as staff labor organizing, emotional labor in leadership roles, and designing equitable systems. He is also engaged in advancing shared equity leadership models to drive institutional change.
His scholarly contributions include co-authoring Higher Education Leadership: Challenging Tradition and Forging Possibilities (2024) and multiple articles addressing equity-driven leadership practices. Dr. Harper's work bridges academic inquiry with practical application, influencing both policy and grassroots movements in higher education reform.
