Jordan Budhu is an Assistant Professor and Steven O. Lane Junior Faculty Fellow in the Bradley Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Virginia Tech, part of the College of Engineering. He holds a Ph.D. from UCLA (2018) and an M.S. from California State University, Northridge (2010). His research focuses on electromagnetics, antennas, metasurfaces, metamaterials, and spacecraft antenna systems. Budhu has pioneered work on non-decaying leaky surface waves, conformal metasurfaces, and reconfigurable antenna designs, contributing to applications in radio astronomy and spaceborne weather radar systems.
He has received numerous awards, including the 2019 USNC-URSI Ernst K. Smith Student Paper Award and multiple nominations for the IEEE R.W.P. King Best Paper Award. His teaching portfolio includes courses on electromagnetic fields and metamaterials at Virginia Tech and the University of Michigan.
Budhu’s academic journey includes postdoctoral research at the University of Michigan (2019–2022) and industry experience at NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory (2011–2012). He leads research initiatives in antenna design, electromagnetic cloaking, and aperiodic metasurface synthesis, supported by grants from the NSF, DARPA, and the Air Force Office of Scientific Research.
