Dr. Joost Monen is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biology at Ramapo College of New Jersey's School of Theoretical and Applied Science, where he has been a faculty member since 2013. His academic background includes a B.S. from the University of Delaware, a Ph.D. from the University of California, San Diego, and post-doctoral training at Cornell University.
Dr. Monen teaches courses including Comparative Animal Physiology (Lecture/Lab), Genetics (Lecture/Lab), and Fundamentals of Biology I (Lab). His teaching interests span:
- Animal Physiology
- Genetics
- Cell and Molecular Biology
- Genes and Development
- Neurobiology
His research program focuses on fundamental biological mechanisms including:
- Cell division processes during embryonic development
- Functional analysis of chromosome segregation genes
- Neuronal migration and connectivity patterns
- Molecular mechanisms of developmental biology
Dr. Monen's publications demonstrate consistent focus on cellular and developmental mechanisms using model organisms like C. elegans and zebrafish. His work integrates genetics, live imaging, and functional genomics to investigate chromosome dynamics, neuronal patterning, and protein function during critical developmental transitions.
