Jonna Gilfus is an Associate Teaching Professor and Director of Undergraduate Studies in the Department of Writing Studies, Rhetoric, and Composition at Syracuse University. She holds a Ph.D. in Composition and Cultural Rhetoric (2012), an M.S. in Affective Education (1992), and a dual B.A./B.S. in English/English Education (1985), all from Syracuse University.
Her research focuses on writing pedagogy, rhetoric, and ethics, with notable work on adaptive teaching strategies in concurrent enrollment programs. She received the Laura J. and L. Douglas Meredith Teaching Recognition Award for Continuing Excellence in 2020.
Gilfus teaches courses like Composition and Rhetoric Pedagogy, Rhetoric and Ethics, and Practices of Academic Writing. She actively contributes to university service, including roles on the Provost's Faculty Salary Advisory Committee, Teaching Recognition Award Review Committee, and leadership in initiatives like the Student Activism Engagement Team and the Writing and Major/Minor Assessment Coordination.
