Professor Jonathan Tammam is a faculty member at Oxford Brookes University, serving as Director of the Centre for Nutrition and Health and Programme Lead for Nutrition and Dietetics within the School of Sport, Nutrition and Allied Health Professions. He holds a BSc in Applied Biology, an MSc with distinction in Nutrition and Dietetics, and a PhD in intermediary metabolism. Professionally, he is a Registered Nutritionist and Dietitian, and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and the Institute of Food, Brain and Behaviour.
His research focuses on public health nutrition, particularly among vulnerable populations such as prisoners and adolescents. Key areas include dietary interventions, malnutrition screening in clinical settings, the impact of food advertising on public health, and gender disparities in the dietetics profession. He has led randomized controlled trials in prison and school environments and investigates the alignment of food provision with national dietary guidelines.
His recent publications span topics like prison nutrition, functional foods (e.g., mulberry leaf extract, red dragon fruit), malnutrition in cancer patients, and the metabolic effects of niacin. These works reflect a strong emphasis on evidence-based nutrition, clinical applications, and public health policy. Research trends show consistent use of systematic reviews, RCTs, and nutritional analysis to inform practice and policy.

He supervises PhD students including Matt Poulter (prison nutrition) and Francesca Tabacchi (malnutrition in cancer patients). He serves as an external examiner and mentor in leadership programs.
Professor Tammam leads the Centre for Nutrition and Health and is affiliated with the Oxford Institute of Applied Health Research and the Centre for Healthy Living. His work bridges academic research, clinical application, and public engagement through media contributions and parliamentary briefings.
