Dr. Jonathan Strand is a Professor of Philosophy at the Department of Philosophy, Religious Studies, and Classics within the Faculty of Arts at Concordia University of Edmonton. He holds a PhD in Philosophy from the University of Notre Dame and has held significant administrative roles including Chair of the Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies, Dean of Undergraduate Studies, and Dean of Arts and Science.
His academic interests focus on formal logic, scientific reasoning applied to religious questions, and the ethical dimensions of religious belief. He has taught courses such as Introduction to Logic, Philosophy of Mind, and Epistemology. Strand’s research bridges philosophy, theology, and science, exploring topics like epistemic virtue in film, artificial intelligence ethics, and the intersection of animism with contemporary philosophy of mind.
He has presented at international conferences including the Western Canadian Philosophical Association and the Evangelical Theological Society, and published in venues like Film, Philosophy and Religion and Technology and the Christian Faith. His work frequently engages in interdisciplinary dialogue between theology, philosophy, and emerging technologies.
Strand has held leadership roles in academic policy committees and has been actively involved with organizations such as the Canadian Philosophical Association and the Society of Christian Philosophers.
