Jonathan Skinner, PhD, is a health economist and Professor in the Economics Department at Dartmouth College, affiliated with the Geisel School of Medicine. Since 1995, he has been a key faculty member, holding the James O. Freedman Presidential Professorship. His research integrates Dartmouth’s Medicare and Medicaid datasets with interdisciplinary collaborations at partner institutions.
Dr. Skinner’s work focuses on the economic impact of high-tech healthcare, the diffusion of medical innovations (both beneficial and harmful), the role of provider networks in technology adoption, and the influence of healthcare quality on population-level outcomes. He leads large-scale projects funded by the National Institute on Aging (NIA) and contributes frequently to national health policy discourse.
His scientific achievements include election to the National Academy of Medicine and leadership roles as Research Associate and Director of the Aging Program at the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER).
