Jonathan Senchyne is an Associate Professor and Director of the Center for the History of Print and Digital Culture at the University of Wisconsin–Madison’s School of Computer, Data & Information Sciences. He holds a Ph.D. in English from Cornell University (2012). His research focuses on book history, African American print culture, material textuality, and digital humanities. He teaches courses such as LIS 650 (History of Books and Print Culture) and LIS 950 (African American Print Culture).
His recent publications explore material aspects of literary and cultural history, including studies on paper’s role in American literature and African American print infrastructure. He co-edited Against a Sharp White Background: Infrastructures of African American Print (2019) and authored The Intimacy of Paper (2020). His work engages critical race theory, materialisms, and public sphere theory.
