Jonathan Nickels is a Professor in the Department of Chemical and Environmental Engineering at the University of Cincinnati, holding the position since 2023 after serving as Assistant Professor (2017-2023). He directs research on soft matter and biological systems using neutron scattering, x-ray analysis, and molecular dynamics simulations. His laboratory develops nanofiber membranes for biomedical applications including drug delivery systems and biosensors.
Research encompasses:
- Membrane biophysics and lipid raft dynamics
- Nanoscale material interactions in biological contexts
- Development of neutron scattering methodologies
- Electrospun biomaterials for controlled release
His NSF CAREER award (2022) supports studies of molecular transport in crowded cellular environments. Recent work includes SARS-CoV-2 protein refinement and bacterial membrane labeling techniques.
