Jonathan Mohr is an Associate Professor of Psychology at the University of Maryland, College Park. His research focuses on stigma, discrimination, and stereotypes affecting LGB populations, as well as interpersonal relationships and psychotherapy dynamics with LGB clients. He holds a PhD in Psychology from the University of Maryland (2001) and a BS in Mathematics from the University of California, Santa Cruz (1988). Mohr serves on the editorial boards of the Journal of Counseling Psychology and Psychotherapy: Theory, Research, Practice & Training.
His primary research interests include collective identity formation, minority stress theory, and the intersection of sexual orientation with mental health. He explores how stigma impacts daily experiences of LGB individuals, including transgender women’s mental health, bisexual-specific stressors, and intersectional stigma among Black LGBQ communities.
Over 25 years of work, Mohr has published extensively on sexual orientation concealment, psychotherapy relationships, and measurement tools (e.g., the LGB Identity Scale, Barriers to Using Immediacy Scale). His work bridges social/personality psychology and clinical practice, emphasizing culturally responsive interventions and therapist training.
